Country Music for Everyone Else

“Country music is rock & roll for Republicans, and Americana is country music for Democrats.” - Bill Gubbins
Hands down the funniest thing I’ve read in a while and also, one of the truer comments I’ve read in a while. My friend Erin sent this article to me about the Americana Music Awards… what? you didn’t know it already happened? You must be a republican.
I wish that the quote from Bill Gubbins would have read something like this:
“Country Music is Rock & Roll for Republicans, and Americana is country music” for everyone else.
For the record I’m not a republican anymore. I’m not sure what I am politically but I’m sure of what I am not. The other night at the Bright Eyes show they played “Old Soul Song (For the New World Order)” and it was one of the first times in my life I’ve ever felt like protesting. I’d protest against a few things these days… first, the FCC allowing Corporate domination of the radio waves and secondly, yes, the war in Iraq. Is it possible to have two signs at a protest?
There are so many things messed up between politics and music that I’m really tired of thinking about it.
Anyway, go Ron Paul! Can the Libertarians get a new mascot? This one isn’t doing it for me.
