The Weakerthans, AA Bondy, and Bottletree

For a while I’ve been a fan of a Canadian band called The Weakerthans. If I’m thinking properly there’s at least one member from the old punk band Propaghandi and if I’m not mistaken it’s the singer and songwriter. I’m sure I could look that up but I’m lazy and don’t feel like typing more than I’m doing now.
Opening for them was Christine Fellows (who I missed) and the Birmingham friend, AA Bondy. This was my first experience with AA Bondy and I was pleasantly surprised. There were moments of folk brilliance and moments of heavy dylan influence… which I’m trying to figure out if I liked because it reminded me of Dylan or if I genuinely liked what he was doing… does that make sense? Do I like it because it’s familiar or because it’s good or both? Regardless, I want to get the record because the song about american hearts is amazing.
The Weakerthans came out and rocked. It was a blast to see them here at the Bottletree. Highlight for me was when they played “The Reason” (not the crappy Hoobastank song) from Reconstruction Site. I really wish I timed the show because it felt short but I’m sure it was about an hour. Overall the entire evening was great but I do have two problems and here they are…
1. They were filming for a DVD or something and the camera guy got in front of us for most of the show. Which brings me to my second point/question….
2. The Bottletree was slammed so we couldn’t move to a different place for better viewing. Am I the only one that feels like the walls are closing in when there’s a huge crowd there to see a show at Bottletree? I love The Bottletree and I’m thankful that it’s in town to bring some great bands (Midlake, Hold Steady, Band of Horses, Weakerthans, etc) and it’s support for local music is fantastic. That being said, are they over-selling or am I standing in the wrong place? Band of Horses was stupidly crowded… like panic attack crowded.
Am I alone on this?

The bottletree lets in too many people. Period.
hi jon! jamie & i were glad to see you & lauren at the show! the four of us should get together for coffee sometime.
i’m beginning to realize how uncomfortable i feel standing in a crowd for any show nowadays, and yes, especially at a very crowded bottletree show. i wonder if bottletree is allowed to have a lot of people because of the outside deck? the exit, the extra sq feet.. but then everyone ends up in the one room watching the band.
