All I Want is Some Peace of Mind….
My friend Jon Schneck introduced me to a place in Nashville called The Great Escape. It’s pretty much one of my favorite stores across america. Why? It’s divided into two sections. The first half is bins and bins of vinyl. The second half is comic books and nerd stuff. I almost left yesterday with a Battlestar Galactica action figure and a miniture warthog from Halo 3. I would lose the miniature warthog and they didn’t have a character I wanted from BSG. However, I did leave with Boston’s first record and volume 1 of CCR’s Greatest Hits. I didn’t realized the value of action figures from rare shows. For example, Joss Wheadon (guy who did Buffy the Vampire Slayer) created a show called Firefly and one of those actions figures was going for $100. That’s what I call expensive plastic.
On another note, yesterday went well. I ended my Nashville trip at 3rd and Lindsley and heard two fantastic bands, Romantica and The Bittersweets. Romantica is one of Paste’s 100 bands to look for and they’re on that list for a good reason. I’d actually put them really high in the list if that were up to me. The Bittersweets couldn’t have a better sound and they’re lead singer’s voice is like Tift and Over The Rhine bred. It’s wonderful… such a good reminder that there is great music being made.
Speaking of great music… Corb Lund is currently owning me. It’s 100% Country and 100% Clever. This dude is from the Great White North and he’s killing it up there. He’s just getting started down here in the states so be on the look out for him… especially if you wonder what Lyle Lovett and Gram Parsons would sound like together.
